Mental Health
Mental Health is perhaps the most important factor of our overall health and wellbeing. Our mental health can often have a large bearing on our own physical wellbeing. However mental health is fragile and is something which needs to be protected. This is particularly true with the current recession and the pressure placed upon people. Detecting that you may be feeling stressed, under pressure or depressed is vital in maintaining and protecting your mental health.
Mental Health problems can often begin with periods of stress. We have put together some important points on dealing with early indicators of stress.
In some circumstances stress can be easily identified by one’s family, friends or workmates. The physiological symptoms of stress and changes in behaviour can be associated with stress. However in all too many cases, the signs of stress are only visible to the person experiencing it. Stress often occurs through three forms

Dealing with Stress
When one is feeling stressed, changes in their own emotions may occur. Your emotions may be heightened during periods of stress. These changes can sometimes but not always lead to changes in behaviour. For example, some people may experience mood swings but do not outwardly display these changes. This can often occur when one is feeling depressed.
Stress can often lead to feelings of anxiety and confusion. In this case, one may feel indecisive and unsure of oneself. Changes in behaviour include changed eating habits, sleeping patterns or any normal daily routines. Dangerous behaviour such as increased alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking or drug taking can be a result of stress or other related mental health problems.
If you feel that you know anyone that appears that they are feeling stressed you should take the time to talk to them. If it is confirmed that they are feeling stressed you should recommend that they see their own GP. Often people feeling stressed are reluctant to see their GP due to embarrassment or otherwise. However, this is a vital step in dealing with stress. Stress that is not treated can lead to other mental health problems such as depression.
